Andy Wore Plaid Too

In honor of the New York Magazine's 40th anniversary they have a slideshow up online comprised of forty of the magazine's most memorable covers. I thought it was interesting that Warhol in some way or another made three. They also named him the number one most influential New Yorker.

"Warhol ran through all of the major currents of the city: He was a downtown guy who lived uptown, an artist and businessman. He was a quintessential New Yorker; his influence was beyond influence."

Makes me proud to be a New Yorker. Uh. Yeah. Someday.

You're Breaking My Heart

Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. I started puking my guts out at five in the morning so I had to spend the day drugged up and in bed. No turkey and dressing for me. I'm off to town to pick up a Dr. Pepper from Sonic and some bleach for my jeans. Wish me luck.

Skinhead

I recently re-watched "This Is England". Ever seen it? Watch it. It's phenom. Ben Sherman checked shirts, braces, Dr. Martens, cuffed pants, bleached denim, shaved heads and feathercuts (so hot). I couldn't get Rag & Bone's Spring collection out of my mind. It's dead on. Sure, 80s skinhead has been done many times before, but the pieces of this collection are really beautiful. The look has definitely had an effect on me. I never wear my old blue jeans so I've decided to bleach them while I'm home for Thanksgiving break. It can't be that hard right? And I've finally succumbed to the world of Dr. Martens. I know, I know, I know, but I'm quite taken with these and these. Dear me, it seems as though my shoe obsession has resurfaced.

On the Lookout

Three things that have been consuming my mind today: coats (bought a beautiful trench coat, on the search for a new leather jacket, wishing the snow leopard coat at the Goodwill down the road fit me), vintage rhinestone necklaces (expect an explanatory post soon), and these Stubbs & Wootton velvet slippers. Beautiful, aren't they? The currency pair is my favorite. I was disappointed to find that neither Ebay nor Etsy had much of anything to satisfy my craving, but I'll be keeping an eye out.

"If Only" Boots

Short for "If Only I Had Massive Piles of Cash Lying Around to Spend on Unreasonably Priced Ankle Boots" boots. They're perfect. I would settle for these, though. Or even these.

So Much Joy

Went to see Little Joy (Fabrizio Moretti from the Strokes, Rodrigo Armanti from Los Hermanos, and Binki Shapiro) last night at Exit/In. It was the cutest perfromance I've ever seen in my life, mostly because Binki Shapiro is the cutest person I've ever seen in my life.

Rumor has it the Strokes are coming off hiatus in February.

Young Hollywood

Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923)

Lillian Gish (1893-1993)

Constance Talmadge (1897-1973)

My head is filled with silent film stars from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. I was completely oblivious to this glamorous world until I decided to write my Art paper on one of Napoleon Sarony's photographs of Sarah Bernhardt. These are three of the most beautiful, bewitching women I have ever seen. They make me want to wear lace and pearls and frizz my curls out.

Words

"You'll fall in love," I said.
"Oh, I pray not. I say, do you think I could have another one of those scrumptious meringues?"

-Evelyn Waugh, Brideshead Revisited

Hi,

My name is Mary-Kate, and I always look awesome.

I know what I'm asking Santa to bring me for Christmas. Oh gosh, Christmas. We're nearly halfway through November. Can you believe that? Thanksgiving, finals, Christmas, and then I'm one semester closer to the real world.

So...

I may not be a huge fan of Erin Wasson, but I was taken aback by these photos from i-D's October issue when I came across them on Fashion Toast. Must find studs and smother my wardrobe in them ASAP.

Exercitus

I am of the opinion that every human being, male and female alike, needs to own an old army coat/army green parka like this one. They look fabulous with everything. I have a flimsy polyester version that I bought to hold me over until I can get my hands on a real one, and I have yet to find something it looks bad over. I came across a real one the other day at Goodwill, but it was a little too big for me. I was going to buy it anyway and put it away for my future significant other (because he's going to have to have one), but then I found a stain that I couldn't force myself to overlook. Eheu! One day.
